‘The Involution and Evolution of the Spirit’ 

This talk will consider Sri Aurobindo’s view of evolution, which differs from the scientific theory in important ways, especially in its envisioning of a prior involution of the Spirit into matter which then gradually re-emerges and transforms the matter in which it develops. By considering key passages in both his prose works and in Savitri, we will see how Sri Aurobindo’s vision gives us a deeper understanding and appreciation of the significance of life and its difficulties and higher possibilities.
